The Carolina Shores Quilters Guild began in 1985 when a number of women who shared the love of quilting formed the group to share ideas and learn from each other. The Quilerst Guild meets at the neighborhood clubhouse from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM on the second Friday of every month. The business meeting is followed by a workshop, demonstration or lecture. A second day has been added as a work day for special projects and for getting help with prior projects.

Over the years the Guild has made quilts for various groups. Currently, the major beneficiaries are children staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Durham -- Ronald McDonald House. The Quilters Guild provides quilts for many children staying at the House while receiving treatment at Duke University Medical Center. The children keep the quilts permanently. The Guild now also provides quilts to children who are long-term patients in the hospital's pediatric unit.

Members take part in classes, participate in visits with other quilt guilds and attend quilt shows to keep learning about the art and craft of quilting. Occasionally the Quilt Guild sponsors an exhibit of its work.

For several years the Carolina Shores Quilt Guild has been holding an annual "challenge" with the Oak Island Beach Quilters. A challenge is given by the guild that will host the annual get-together. First, second and third place winners are chosen. Lunch is provided by the hosting guild -- alternating between Oak Island and Carolina Shores. The event includes Show and Tell and sharing of ideas.
